Black Rock Backstory

For many years, I worked at a restaurant called Black Rock Steakhouse while living in New Hampshire.

Every day, the owners would ask someone to climb a ladder and update the chalkboard with the day’s specials or other menu changes. I quickly noticed that no one wanted to do it and everyone dreaded being the “chalkboard chosen one.”

Being new, I volunteered. Once they saw my penmanship, it quickly became my designated job. Not long into writing the menu each day, I asked the owner if I could add some hand-drawn animals to liven things up.

Let’s just say the requests didn’t stop after that. I brought the chalkboard to life daily, and it became one of my favorite creative outlets.
